At the time it sounded believable enough, but a bit of googling has told me it's seen more as an urban legend than anything else. In any case it's an example about the 'real life' outcomes of socialism.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A…. (substituting grades for dollars – something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little..
The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
It could not be any simpler than that.

Remember, there IS a test coming up. The 2012 elections.
These are possibly the 5 best sentences you’ll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

In retrospect it does sound a bit chain mail-y. I think this version was a little bit more political than the one I first read. But a depressing tale nonetheless. To be blatantly honest I'm actually a bit of a believer in this "Obama's socialism" and I thought if this actually happened there must be something else wrong.

Skip to a week <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 303px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lZbQW11Cylg/TzL2h502yGI/AAAAAAAAALw/HsTsU-KNU08/s320/300px-Production_Possibilities_Frontier_Curve_Pareto.svg.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5706894740150470754" />or two ago when I was for some reason reading about the wonders of deadweight loss when I spotted a term called "Pareto Optimal". In simple terms this is basically a way to measure the efficiency of a system, where the Pareto Optimum is reached by changing allocation of resources that makes at least one individual in the system better off, while not making any other individual worse off. I think an example could be something like taking a box of grapes from somebody who doesn't really care/intend to eat them and giving them to somebody who really likes grapes. Since the first person has no preference to whether they keep or lose the grapes, the only change is the increased happiness in the grapelover.

Anyway keeping this in mind I now want to talk about Nash equilibrium, which is a phenomenon in game theory that describes the state where, taking into account the decisions of all the other players, the individual is making the best decision for themselves (can you see where I'm going with this o.o). A good example of this might be something like the Prisoners Dilemma where two cellmates are given a choice: if one guy turns the other in, he gets 5 of his years forgiven and the other none, if they both snitch they are forgiven one year, and if they both don't talk they each are forgiven 2 years. Assuming both prisoners are sane and aim to get out of prison ASAP, they will of course jump at the chance to rat their cellmate and consequently both end up keeping all their years, which is in fact the worst possible outcome. This last outcome is actually the Nash Equilibrium, and the globally optimal strategy of both staying silent is unstable. If this situation seems irrational, it is because it is not Pareto optimal. To logic it a bit more, if each prisoner assumes their buddy will rat them then their choice is either to be forgiven no years or be forgiven one year (by also defecting).

My point is that this is the same kind of situation as the student mentioned in the story. I think they are at Nash equilibrium, with everyone assuming everyone else will do the work, and aiming to give themselves the easiest ride. The problem is, their assumption is wrong, and the carrot of an easy A that is being dangled in front of them is only potentially possible if everyone works hard enough for it, but maybe not even then. In reality, the mean intelligence of all students might only be enough to get them to a C level, but if they all put in a bit of work and the better kids help the weaker ones out, they might raise the grade to a B. Overall, we might see this as the potential A students 'sacrificing' their higher grade for a lower one, but in the situation where everyone's grades are equal (i.e. you can't get an A if someone flunks), it looks to me like the best possible outcome.

I'm sure this has probably been the basis of a lot of utilitarian arguments in the past, but I really do believe it. Going back to Obama's socialism, it's true, in the current system potentially anyone can be rich! But not everyone can be. By striving only for personal gain, hoping to...well really wrest money from others, yes a small number will be more successful than the 'B' grade, but a whole lot more will be below that line. The problem is everyone thinks that they'll be the special ones, that they have what it takes to beat everyone else. And that's shows healthy confidence and self esteem, which is how we've been brought up, but not everyone can win.

In truth, the odds are quite stacked against you.

The point of all that was to point out that they were putting people who thought like 'capitalists' into a 'socialist' environment and using that as the proof that the system was ineffective. If the individuals in the system do not realize there is an alternative solution, then yes, they will be stuck with the worst outcome. The crux is that the system relies on everyone believing that by giving a little, they can get more; acting not completely selfishly to gain the best outcome for themselves.

Blah anyway to finish off this strange and likely flawed rant I found a video from the movie Beautiful Mind that demonstrates a simple case of the Nash equilibrium (it was about that guy actually). He's got a funny accent, acts like he's a bit high and the idea is not super amazing I guess, and you could always argue someone would actually get the girl, but if it's a new idea to you I think it's nice food for thought =]

I told you it was a fat post. =p

Post #2 of 2012

"A good character is the best tombstone. Hahah I can't say I'm the best judge of singing ability :x
3: I seem to remember clicking around her links and finding a bio-video. From what I recall she moved from California to Japan to pursue her love of singing. I'm not sure why Japan, maybe a side dream or something ^^" Anyhoo I kind of admire her for having the guts to go and do something like that for what she thinks she wants =]

*I'll put a footnote here to remind me to talk about optimism next time*

Post 15 of 2011 =]

“There's only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your own self."
Aldous Huxley (1894 - 1963) (Brave New World Guy)

Listening to: Your Song - Elton John

Check in

So I said I'd get back to you guys about my attempt to do that pushups/situps program. It's been about 2 weeks now, today was Day 1 Week 3 and I'm happy to say I've been keeping to to schedule pretty well ^_^ Only two more weeks to go =]

Yesterday was a day of uberfail for me =[ Well, it started off pretty well, with me waking up at 5.30am to see if I could/go for a run. Btw it was also an initial trial for the 3mile in 18min run thing, I got 26min hahaha >< It equates to just pass on the grading scale =.=" Anyhoo after that went out and ended up eating lunch at Nandos. Do you think the sauce hotness varies between establishments? I swear I couldn't take hot flavour in Melbourne but here it's like =\ Maybe it's just because everyone else around was like from Malaysia/Singapore/Indonesia and they were making fun of the 'extra hot' flavour lol.

After that I went home and my day of fail began. I spent about an hour shortening my uni office pants, which worked out pretty well considering I was using a $2 sewing kit (apart from breaking a needle, cause I'm tank like that =.="). But after when I tried to iron it to make the edges straight I managed to melt a freakin hole in the leg >__>" Apparently highest setting is a nono. I should know this, as it's happened to me once before ==" So now I've ripped a piece of material off the pants, to use to test the melty-ness of the iron before I use it on anything else.

After that I decided to play some Starcraft to you know...de-rage from my loss of pants. Teamed up with two guys on NA for 3v3 goodness, and we won 4/5 matches of placement. The fail was the last game, against diamonds, where we couldn't even deny ONE expo. So by midgame they had like a billion things flying around the map and my whole team was still onebase =-="

After that slightly sad ending I decided to make dinner because you know...food =]. I was going mega ceebs that night, so dinner was buttered wholemeal toast with leftover curry in omelette + spinach. 15min start->eating ftw!! xD Anyway I managed to burn my tongue on the curry/omelette thing which resulted in me closing my mouth and scraping my hard palate with hot, hard, toast (with added pointy wholegrains!). It didn't help one bit that I know exactly what the bits of mucosa I had scraped off were called =[(rugae).

Do you reckon by being able to better verbalize your pain you increase the pain? Kind of like when you don't want people to start a revolution in your country you don't let them have a word for revolution in their language - it makes the concept harder to grasp.

*sigh* So that was my fail day, which started off so well =[ Now I have to deal with having only one set of un-melted pants, an embarrassing SC2 replay and a very smooth hard palate =_=
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 397px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-l0Z5yoOVCyw/Tm1eWh_lTLI/AAAAAAAAAKs/vwmBQYbtOAg/s400/tumblr_ljyzrisemT1qj0ow0o1_500.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5651276848595029170" />
And no more curry!! ;__;

I hope today's going to be better xD

Post 14 of 2011 =]

“It’s quite hard to soar like an eagle when one thinks like a turkey”

Listening to: Mother, We just can't Get Enough - New Radicals

Not a Monday

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rue4sfyFYe4/TmnKxO9II2I/AAAAAAAAAKk/Wb3VLcUWAUQ/s400/23.08.2011%2BSalmon%252C%2BSpinach%252C%2BBrocolli%252C%2BBrown.white%2Brice%2Blemon%2Bspring%2Bonion.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5650270154689880930" />
Recently I've been trying to eek out a post every Monday.
Today it's only Friday :O

The reason I felt like posting today is because the girl I sit next to in Preclinic (the class where we drill into plastic teeth in fake people) said something I thought was really nice. Also because I have time to kill while my chicken defrosts. I'm not sure how we got to it, but the quote was was "Time spent enjoying yourself is never time wasted".

I just thought that was a really succinct way to remind yourself what is important in life, and that you should not feel guilty/regret the times you've enjoyed yourself (with the exception of all the weird fetish people). The most important goal in life is to be happy. Happy with yourself, and what you've done/accomplished in the past, and where you're going =]

In Preclinic right now we're doing Class V cavities, which is basically cutting a smiley face mouth into the outside surface of the tooth near the gums. It looks super simple on paper, but it is omfg hard to angle the drill properly >__>" It turns out it is helpful to actually get the patient to close their teeth together when doing these preparations, because it takes tension out of the cheeks, meaning they don't pull your drill in random directions when you bump them.
Nevertheless, I think I'm doing quite well in Class V's, which is good because we have an assessment on them in a couple weeks ><

In other news I finally watched Dorian Grey, the movie adaptation of the book, almost exactly 2 years after it came out. Lol. I've been meaning to get that story into my head somehow for ages, so yeah ^^ I knew the general idea but never went through the whole thing. There was probably a nice philosophical lesson in there somewhere if I think hard enough but I've already rambled about that other thing today ^^"

Post 13 of 2011 =]

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.
Charles Dickens (1812 - 1870)

Listening to: Nothing - The Script

Saturday Night

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q9-yMMi-LnQ/TmTGNYtgnJI/AAAAAAAAAKY/fGLPzQJjFlg/s400/riverfire.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5648857765903375506" /> Was Riverfire. It's basically and annual event that involves and airshow in the afternoon and fireworks at night =] It signals the opening of several weeks of art shows and other random stuff. Anyhoo I went down to Southbank (same general idea as the Melbourne one =]) with a couple of people to watch, and I've gotta say, fireworks still amaze me ^^ They also has this whole laser light show that synced with music that they were playing out of speakers all along the bank.

I wonder where I'm going to end up in 10 years. I read a quote ages ago that said something like "as we become older, we become more like ourselves unless we make conscious changes". I.e. angry people stay angry, if you have bad habits you'll stay that way, unless you do something about it. Things won't just change themselves. I hope I end up being somebody I'd be proud to become.

Watching everyone run off on their chosen career paths makes me sad. The whole 'road not taken' deal. I'm pretty sure we read some kind of poem about it in year 7 or 8. It's like when you're playing some kind of RPG and you want to try out the stories of all the character classes at the same time, but you can only pick one because you cbs playing the game through like 6 times. Irrelevant of which one you choose, you're always going to wonder if things might have been different/better if you went another way. I suppose all the equipment means you can work one muscle at a time, but compound exercises are much better I think =] Maybe it's because of all the other hot people and mirrors. Meh.

Anyhoo I found this website and I thought since I've got a bit of spare time around here I'd give it a try. Today was week 3 day 2 ^_^. I'm also just starting a 200 situps one at week 3. Check back in a couple weeks to see if my usual ceebs has gotten the better of me, but I'm hoping this time can hold it down for awhile haha.

Those two are kind of part of my greater goal of completing this other fitness test I found online. Basically the test is maximum pull-ups, max crunches in 2min and a 3mile (4.8k) timed run. Doing the pushup/situps program kind of feels like mining for iron in Minecraft, so I can make a bucket ... to milk a cow ... to make cake xD. I think I respond better to gaming-achievement style goals.
The 'perfect score' for the above test is 20+ pullups, 100 crunches and 18min run by the way, if anyone wants to try and get there with me >_< It's going to take awhile haha.

Hmm what else, we just had our drilling competency exam at dent school. Was a bit stressful since we only had like an hour to drill. But if you think about it a professional should be able to do it in 15min lol...so not that hard. I know a couple people who restarted midway through and still finished on time =]

Sorry I haven't had alot of interesting thoughts lately lmao. Microbio kinda sucked because I thought tooth anatomy was actually the last one and was in like celebration mode before someone reminded me about it >__>"

I used to suck so bad at poaching eggs. Like all the white never seemed to stay in one place so I got all this fluffy stuff boiling over. Awhile ago though I heard of a good method. When the water is boiling, turn off the heat and stir until the water looks like a whirlpool. Then you just carefully pour the egg into the centre and as long as you don't disrupt the motion of the water too much, it'll nudge all of the eggy goodness to the centre, leaving you with an intact poached egg!

Hm so I'm trying to get rid of all my perishables before I come back, which has led to alot of nights where dinner is meat et randomstuffinmyfridge. I suppose it is pretty fun experimenting though ^^ As long as you're willing to eat whatever you make haha.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4lqyY3Rgt3E/Ta-8hOP2CWI/AAAAAAAAAH4/n2S3gdrq2PU/s400/tumblr_lil9lqyy221qbw4dpo1_500.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597900140791073122" />
I should really do more exercise =_= feeling quite out of it after all the nerding

Anyhoo somehow I managed to stumble upon this on youtube. The words are very confusing, but what I gathered is that they reckon the phosphorylation sites on the tubulin protein can be used as an on/off switch - effectively acting like a computer bit. And then it went on to some random stuff about quantum theory to try to explain the circuitry and used the whole system to explain how we store memory and cell tasks. It's rather dense but it really blew my mind that the idea was a combination of biology, IT and quantum physics.

Post 10 of 2011 =]
"We have no more right to consume happiness without producing it than to consume wealth without producing it."
George Bernard Shaw, Candida (1898) act 1

Listening to: Taxiride – Creeping up slowly
I first heard that song back in primary school at camp - makes me happy ^^

OH OH and Fast Car - Tracy Chapman. I used to think she was a guy lol =_= She used to look somewhat unisex I believe. Anyway I found her version of this after seeing a guy sing it on Britain's Got Talent. He walked out on stage looking like a friendless hobo and then wowed everyone. I know that story is a bit cliched by now, but I can't help but smile when people are proven wrong when they prejudge others.

Sometimes...

I think that I live in the past too much. Also the views of these times can be coloured negatively and positively. I think I'm one of those people who's a little bit stuck in the past; always looking back and wishing I was past Steve for a little bit longer. That's probably not the most healthy thing but it gets me by =] A little happy nostalgia never hurt anyone xD The article mentioned that it thought the best type of person to be was to take all bits positively - well duh.

Anyhoo I suppose technically watching that pokemon episode doesn't count as living in my past, since I never actually watched the first episode until tonight =] So excited to see the HoOh bahaha !! ^^
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 582px; height: 800px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wL4yVM39Pcg/TZBvCk_VMzI/AAAAAAAAAHo/H-so52hMZPs/s400/97.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5589089227646513970" />
Speaking of nostalgia, I found a scan of page 97 of my very old art book. I think I started it in year 7 haha =] I know it's a bit small, but try spot all the swords...and the Kakashi - even back then I had a thing for awesome ninja-y stuff xD Pretty sure the thing at the top is part of the view from the balcony of my grandparents house in Malaysia ^^ Good memories!

Post 9 of 2011 =]
Listening to : Jian Dan Ai 简单爱 (Simple Love) - Jay Chou 周杰伦, because everything should be oldschool tonight ^__^

“In life we sit at the table and refuse to eat, in death we are eternally hungry.”

Happy Day

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n1gwJ_VT6hM/TYrAlzg2QzI/AAAAAAAAAHI/EdbCNF1ETiI/s320/IMG_0244.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587490043422196530" />
Thursday has turned into my do random stuff day now that I've gotten credit for biology =]

I really really hate thongs. For some reason the side of my foot always gets rubbed raw when I walk with them on =[ I'm wearing them out more because I'm soaking my runners because they're a bit dirty from that day I cleverly decided to go running in the rain ^^"

I'm feeling my cooking skills levelling up ^^ Made chilli spaghetti the other day!

Got an OPG scan at the radiologists to check my wisdoms, visited the dentist to discuss it, bought lunch and some fruit and then ambled home to do washing and nerd it up ^^ Met and played with a random baby in the waiting room - I love how they're amazed by everything =]

Oh oh and the girl who served me gave me an extra mini muffin!! Always feels good to get free stuff xD Anyhoo I've got a butterscotch muffin that I bought with lunch sitting next to me right now and the smell of it is making me...well dizzy I guess but totally in a good way hahaha =]

At uni we're currently doing a block on immune response in 1020, which is all well and good, but I've been warned they expect you to read outside the lectures quite bit...so I'll grab that book I bought when it comes in next week and grind I suppose ==" In other news we've started poking teeth and around in fake heads in prac now which is much fun xD Quite enjoying using all the pointy dental tools haha =] In 1010 it's all been tooth memorisation, which is like learning the distinctive features of each tooth and being able to recognise them through wear and natural variation...which is actually kind of fun in practice but the theory is rather dry >_>

Hmm the other day talked to Alex about perception and social norms and a blob of stuff. I got quite into it, and it made me miss all the philosophy I did in year 7 and 9 =[ It's very refreshing to have conversations like that every once in awhile ^^

I dislike slightly how these recent posts are largely recounts of what I've done here in QLD. Made some yummy spaghetti a couple nights ago as you can see on the right=] I think it was my camera but it looks a bit sickly in colour right =\ I think that might also be because we only used like three tomatoes in the sauce, so wasn't very red. It's kinda cool watching them shrivel up and disappear when they cook though =]

We've had to keep a food diary for uni prac soon, and I started yesterday. I never realised but I eat quite...random food =_= So yes, without further ado here is all the food I ate on Saturday (this is totally not filler XD). It's a little more random than usual because I had linner/dinner at a friends house.

Breakfast - Bowl of cereal and milk. Glass of fruit juice.
Brunch - 2 funsize chocolates (cherry ripe and timeout ^^)
Lunch - bunch of grapes. Wedge of camembert cheese and biscuits.
Linner - Gummy bears.
Dinner - Lasagne, garden salad, glass of water.
Supper - oreo truffles, grapes.

I'm a little worried that I eat so much sugar in one day haha ==' Have to make up for it somehow XD

Hmm, lately a couple of my friends have been playing Pokemon black/white. I wonder who comes up with all the new ones, and do you reckon they have like this super serious board of pokemon coolness that vets all the designs? But yes I'd never seen it before and I wanted to exercise the power of my new library card OKAYY?

ahem. So...
guess who recently:
-ran 8k VERY EARLY in the morning while REPEATEDLY dodging deadly bicycles
-learnt the alphabet backwards in a day (I finally resolved to do it after seeing a video on youtube. You can listen here =] Now I'll be prepared if boost ever has another free reciting the alphabet backwards competition (fwahaha)
-spent today looking at pictures of mouths and (sadly enough) enjoyed it xD
-pretended they were superman when the lift in their apartment building took them upstairs
-and finally cooked a badass chicken soup XD

I am oh so cool I know I know =p OH BTW if you cbb pleeeease gimme ideas for stuff to cook over here haha. So far I've tried scrambeled eggs, spaghetti, chicken soup, two types of stirfry chicken + veg and banana milkshakes. Someone suggested sushi but I'm not sure I trust myself to make it; it's quite hard to get the rice the right consistency right?

Eh anyway onto the slightly more think-y bit. I was having a conversation with my friend the other day. The basic point of debate was, "Assuming that all religions essentialy are different ways of worshipping the same God. Without this God, humans would have no sense of good and evil." My initial knee-jerk response was, no. I know plenty of non-religious people who live lives with good morals. But I guess, if you say those morals are derived from the society the people in question were brought up in, and the laws of...well pretty much every society were set out in a time when religion was pretty much ubiquitous in society. So the other persons argument was that, even though you don't account the values you own to a higher power, by taking them from the society you live in you've indirectly used the Gods morals, and hence without them your values still wouldn't exist.
This sounded a bit weird still to me. I mean, given that pretty much every culture in the world ever had a religion at some stage in their history means that whatever morals you do have would have to be attributed to the higher God. It pretty much means the argument is unbeatable right? How do you crack something like that?

Anyhoo, in my opinion, religion developed because humans have an innate need to feel like they have someone to look up to; someone to pray to and believe is watching over them...and maybe to explain things that seem unexplainable at the time. Also, having people believe there is a badass thrower of thunderbolts watching if you're being bad is also probably very beneficial to a stable community. The term the person used was that in a godless society everyone would be running around killing each other and basically living the hedonistic life. Anyway would be interested if any of you guys have anything to say about that.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M_1Sm540zeg/TXTLDTEK3rI/AAAAAAAAAGY/gLevHNwC5lc/s320/Funny_Demotivational_Posters_95__34.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581309095736696498" />

Plah anyway to finish off here's a video to reward you if you managed to read/skip down to this far. ^^

Post 4 of 2011 =]
“Use what talent you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best”

Listening to: This Ain't Goodbye - Train

lala

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 273px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-k83g6jCpblA/TXDboEEftAI/AAAAAAAAAGI/CJzBgfk6Zss/s320/Lagrangian%2Bpoints%2Band%2BHill%2BSpheres.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5580201419645891586" />
I wonder if anyone will recognise/understand this random picture I found on my internet wanderings.

It's from a wikipedia article about Lagrangian points and Hill spheres. Basically Hill Spheres are countour lines of gravitational pull. So the closer lines are together, the larger the increase in gravity in that direction.
Lagrangian points are kind of special points in the orbit of two objects in space. In a nutshell the nature of the points is that if you put an object of negligible mass on that point, the combined gravitational fields of the two initial objects would keep it in the same position relative to both of them. I thought that was a little interesting ^^"

Post 3 of 2011 =]
“What is today, but yesterday’s tomorrow” - Spongebob

Listening to: A Contre Courant - Alizee

Six days later...

So I've had no internet for six days. Many apologies to you my beloved readers ><
It's been an interesting experience indeed!

I slept between 10 and 11 every night. Woke up between 5 and 7 every morning. Albeit that might have been due to the early traffic than any improved body clock ^^"

Anyhoo I got up to some weird stuff during my internetless (and tvless) period. Watched about 20 eps of how I met your mother. Watched Iron Man. And then again the next night +.+". Then some Igudesman and Joo. And did a teensy bit of exercise. Actually Alex pointed out that given the situation I should have done much more exercise. I've found some nice routes to run around here, haven't gone running yet though, as I've been moving in etc all week =_= hurah. It's also kind of my excuse to be a little antisocial this week eheh ^^" Need to fix that hey!
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 251px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5wTROAi5HS0/TW-lQ1C3YbI/AAAAAAAAAGA/WlP1xCababE/s320/Cool%2Banime%2Bguy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579860171870921138" />

Something I was thinking about today. When you're young, everything is up in the air. I think of young things as being a source of hope in the world. When you're young you have all this potential, both in terms of your ability to learn and how much time you have to do it in. As I've grown slightly older I've found that potential has diminished somewhat, and the gap between the polar ends of your peer group widens more and more. And it's a pretty depressing feeling, knowing that that time you could have been using to do something awesome is lost...

But then again you can look at it as we're still about 20 and have at least thrice that time again left to live =] The potential there is still amazing. It's kind of nice to look back and be a bit regretful you didn't dedicate all your time during the past years, and then appreciate how much time you've still got left ^^

Anyhoo that's just something rather incoherent that was floating around my head today. Stay motivated and active your whole life; tis important =]

Post #2 of 2011 =]
"Attitudes are contagious.
Is yours worth catching?"-Author Unknown

Listening to : Matchbox 20 - How far we've come

Boo !

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2nOmROXvXhM/TWSqF6vE7NI/AAAAAAAAAFo/kfubM0Z9hSo/s320/IMG_0208.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576769257234296018" />

I told you - new motivation every year =p

So I've moved to Queensland now.
The first couple days I didn't really enjoy, since I was still a bit sad about leaving everyone at home I suppose. Also they were like 35 degrees and I was basically roasting walking around the city all day.
The uni here is...kinda like Melbourne High a little in my head - they really value their public image, and also the quality of education. Which is a good thing I suppose, but it's also a bit of a worry since it means they're going to work us like probes the four years they have us. Apparently the pressure comes down alot more in second and third year though, so perhaps I've got a bit of a honeymoon year coming =]

Anyway, enough about me. How've you been dear reader? In this long long....looong absence of mine from this blog xD I'm not sure this is a healthy relationship we have, but as long as you only care about interesting stuff to read I figure I might as well not put my entire life and soul into this, as there is enough interesting stuff already on the internet (see blogs listed on the left) =] And if that's not enough for you there's always New Scientist, xkcd, amirte, cracked and world news. And iuno...^^"

Lastly, over the years I've collected something like 42 pages of quotes that I think are pretty good. I'll probs chuck one in with each post. Ok well I almost did that =.= Anyway I was thinking about it and, well, experiment: Loop that video for like 20min, and see how long people will watch it. I mean, apart from the lolful prolonged almost-climax feeling, that kind of reaction happens alot in real life doesn't it?

Like...unless you literally KNOW the thing fell over, there is always the chance that it will never fall over. And if it has not fallen over yet, then both outcomes are still equally valid. So, while the top is still spinning, it gives you this hope that the ending is happy, and not bittersweet like we know it probably is. This hope is precisely why the joke of dragging out that scene for a retarded amount of time works at all.

In real life, you can kind of see people dragging hope out for inane amounts of time. Like that mega long crush some people have that amount to nothing, or trying to get things to go back to how they were 'back then', or hoping that your marks will magically improve without you studying =p

Iuno if this makes alot of sense...but ye I thought it was an interesting observation at the time =]

Side note: Download/youtube the track "Mind Heist" from Inception trailer. It makes me feel epic. Viv says it makes her want to rule the world from her toilet.

I think I will end here, just because I need to sleep and whatnot. I hope reading this was worth your time ^^ Until next time =]

Listen to: Uncle Kracker - Smile

"Laugh every moment you live, for you’ll find it decidedly difficult afterwards” – Nicomo Cosca

EPIC AWESOME

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/TBHeLnSqmmI/AAAAAAAAAFE/5DWDXKGoti4/s400/rainy+day.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5481406512593803874" />
<font size="2", color="black">
Quote: "When running from temptation, don't leave a forwarding address."

Fact: Smoking paralyzes the cillia of the cells in your oesophagus for hours, causing lots of icky mucus buildup. My massive 3 exams in three days is over, and now I have a whoooooole WEEK until Finance 1 ^_^.

Have been rereading my old Deltora quest books lately, very fond memories =] However Hungy mentioned deltora quest anime and watching that kind of made it less special in my head...== It inserted all those "we're fighting for PEACE and...FREEDOM!" type lines and made the whole thing sound much more corny >3 Way to ruin a memory man =[

Music I have been listening to lately:
Ron Pope - A drop in the ocean
If you're feeling a bit lovesick
Train - Brick by Brick, This ain't goodbye, Hey soul sister
The last one makes me happy. Memories and Dust MV has baby chickens hatching.
Someone still loves you Boris Yeltsin - Cardinal Rules
I laughed that they named the band to make Boris feel better. Since they're kind of important and my first ever uni exams I thought I'd try and hardcore nerd it out.

Hahahahahah =__="

I love how I trick myself into doing this every pre-exam period. I mean, by all rights, should have been studying couple weeks before now, so I wouldn't have to try and all out nerd...but it's the same as making lunch on holidays; always too far to prepare for properly so when you actually feel hungry/need to study you just end up with a ceebs 4 layer toasted cheese sandwich lol ^^" (I'm not sure what the studying equivalent of that is >_>)

In other news though, I FINALLY FINALLY learnt Comptine D'un autre ete from Amelie (that song Pingu played heaps at school if any mhs kids remember) and I think you should all search for it because it's awesome! I'd almost forgotten about that song, but Mum found it in my youtube history and loved it so I decided to hunt down the sheet music =] Funny thing is it took me less than a couple hours to learn. I like how you can just steamroll down tasks when you set your mind to them =] Also we got an awesome Tv and I now have the Bridge to Terabithia soundtrack. That movie always makes me feel extra optimistic X^__^

Anyway I'd better get some sleep now XD Hope everyone is still studying hard =]

Fact: I decided to blog at midday today. It is now 11.27pm. Now you may think that is alot of lag..but ... I got hung up playing this towerdefence game, and then eating, then setting up Tv, then some other game made by american uni kids. And yes, the final blow for my apathy was the realisation that I wouldn't be able to say I blogged TODAY if I did it past 12 ^^"

Quote: "Time is like the ocean; you can only hold so much in your hands at once."

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/TAes8087tVI/AAAAAAAAAEE/uAjV8zMbhYE/s400/1195455133059%5B1%5D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478537632725841234" />
Start mornings like this and it is impossible to have a bad day XD

Fruit Ninja

<font size="2", color="black">
Is possibly the most awesome game ever invented (contending with counterstrike, dota, oven break, tetris, minesweeper and go....don't judge me ><). I spent most of the micro lecture after Finance today playing it on Alex's itouch.

Stuff that happened today:
We had a very emotional last ever Calc 2 tute. That group of kids was my reason to drag myself to uni every thursday morning =[ Ima miss them. Even the ones I didn't really meet.

Bought my first ever warm bubblecup. Very yummy, especially since it was such a cold day ^_^ Mandy and Alex reckon they taste retarded but I think it is just an acquired taste. Anyway, they might have icky bacteria filled icecubes. Also the melting ice dilutes the milktea and makes it taste weird. Totally secure about my choice of bubblecup =\

Crashed a chem tute - I need to revise alot... :O

Finished reading over chem notes made in lectures.

Dot waved at me...REALLY ENERGETICALLY!!!

I found 50c at union house and we spent an improper amount of time spinning/rolling it.

I got some honey chicken from Hungy.

I got half a crab ball from swango; midair chopstick mediated exchange of slippery hemisphere of processed meat was quite pro. (gosh that sounds awesome)

We devised a catapult from a Saigon noodle shop spoon and a polystyrene plate. Said catapult was used by Jacky to plop coin into Swang's noodles. (luckily the crab hemisphere was obtained before this time)

I actually shed a tear laughing at this movie on oj's computer in finance. It was a guy just whacking himself over the head with a sheet of wood over and over again lol. But when I rewatched it myself at home in full it was actually kind of sad...I realised he was trying to prove the usefulness of determination and persistence by not giving up until he broke the thing in half... =\

I scored 270 on fruit ninja. I believe for a first attempt this is quite formidable and this is clear evidence that I am at least part ninja.

I was given a free Milky Way chocolate ^_^

I beat Oven Break again, gaining an E for Alex, who was of course filled with praise because of my blessing her itouch with my skills. Bonita reckons if you spell out FREEDOM with the letters the ingame background music changes.

Fact: Redbull + milk tea from bubblecup = congealed blobs of milk and a clear bottom layer or syrupy/watery stuff. If you look at the top bit from above it looks like curdled milk (which is what I believe it is).
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 228px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/S_5JRJb92jI/AAAAAAAAAD8/QUF1et57Zf4/s400/escalators.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5475894755868924466" />
Ps: I am sorry I haven't been updating music. I have been making mental playlists on the way home on the bus but I always cbs by the time I get home ^^"
Pps: ........................................I forget >_>
Ppps: OH RIGHT!!!!!

DEAR LITTLE FISH WHO LIVE IN THE SIDE OF MY PAGE!! It's awesome though, I wrote heaps more notes that most kids during lectures, so all I have to do now is read over them and go over the topics in the books =] FINALLY all my frantic scribbling in lectures will pay off!! To lecture slide printing kids: I hope the trees whose bodies you printed disturbing amounts of lecture slides onto are ok with what you have done >3 Anyway yes, after that all that is left is practise exams =] I hope I get this timing thing right lmao...not too early that you forget everything preexam, but not too late that you stressplode the night before exam ><

Crashed Accounting lecture today and I realised something; they are actually doing revision! How come in all my subjects we're still learning stuff for the exams?! Especially bio, I mean wtf man, give us a hw sheet for stuff we haven't done yet == Then again, uni IS supposed to be more self directed learning right? >_> Shame on me for not having read the book a year ago.

Nostalgia is a pain in the bum sometimes. Sometimes you can really miss how things used to be, because you have such good memories of the time. But I think we have to remember that memory only likes the memorable bits, and that in the time we now look back upon so fondly now we were probably plagued with a similar amount of problems and worrys as we are now. That's a nice thought though isn't it? That all the worries we have currently are fleeting and easily forgettable ^_^ Got to make sure you appreciate the memorable stuff while you can =]

Have been sick lately (because of lack of sleep and vitamin c according to my friend) so tonight I will sleep a full hour earlier than usual ^_^ Hope this starts working before exams roll in =\

ANYWAY! I hope you're all studying more than I am =]

Fact: Before it goes into your mouth, food is food. When it is going past your pharynx it is called a bolus. When it is in your tummy it is called chmye. And I think we all know what it is called when it comes out the rear door. Wow... and I used to think Finance had alot of words for the same thing ^^"

Quote: "My plan is so simple even an idiot could have devised it. Have not played in so so so so so long! Was pretty fun, only I think Abid did something funny to his back when he did this massive splits/lunge thing. After that went for a run on the athletics track, realised I haven't run a proper 100 in ages. Body conks out a bit early now =[ Cannot run the whole way full tilt. Must fix. Need more days like Tuesday =]

Friday I think was the day MHS guys came to uni for careers session or something, so saw little Vincent. He called to tell me he was here and apparently my reaction weirded out people at my lunch table. Jeez guys, I'm not allowed to have energy? XD

Friday night was Hungy's 18th, which was very guyful. But that was actually a good thing, as we could pig out as much as we wanted at Sante and not have to worry too much about manners =] We all came out feeling much much bloated after that XD Somehow Hungy or Yunghan procured cards and we played for like hours there, in KFC and in Hungy's apartment lobby. Really fun to play Big 2 and knives like in year 9 and at aths days ^_^ Was also good smiting many pesants on OJ's Mount and Blade game. I will beat it, in time >3

Saturday night was EMS concert at Melba Hall. Was quite fun, but omfg I hate how orchestra is always last. Means we have to play twice in one night =_= Rather just get it all over with in one shot haha. Did not go afterparty because of work Sunday morning =[

Annyway that was my weekend ^^ Hope you all got more sleep than I did =]

OH OH OH I ALMOST FORGOT! Very happy about bio now ^_^ We did the heart/lung dissection prac on thursday and I am amazed at all the unintentional learning I have achieved! XD To bhs kids, the demonstrators did the same thing Ms Palmer did in year 7 with the puffy lungs, only they used plastic pipes =] Hearts are weird to dissect, when you stick your fingers down the chambers you can really feel the muscle pushing in. And they have all these pesky cords of muscle between the chamber walls that get in the way when you're looking for valves :x

Quote: "Don't waste your time on jealously...the race is long, and in the end it's against yourself"

Fact: I now have an awesome jacket =] Oven Break is an extremely addictive game.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/S_j79xwOKeI/AAAAAAAAADk/xAREWIL4SDw/s400/DSC00553.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474402385815022050" />
Not sure if the people involed know I took this pic, but it was our last day of school =] We MHS kids were a manly, serious bunch ^^

The motivational day off

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/S_KMxR5EQFI/AAAAAAAAADc/tGPBB2Pt9K0/s400/My_dream_world____by_EmptyTingle.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472591275452809298" />

Today I awoke at about 8.15am and rushed out of the house to drive mom to busstop in my Pjs. I then spent about an hour playing games and catching up on fb/news/email/xkcd. Then bummed for like ages. By about 10 or 11 I read this random xanga blog, and somehow got hit by this massive burst of energy.

Anyway so the result of this was me putting on awesome motivational music and showering BEFORE midday. (Oh yes, btw I don't have uni on tuesday XD bahaha) And then...did pushups and situps (omfg finally I can do more than year 7 me again, TAKE THAT YOU LITTLE EXERCISE NUT) ANNND to top it off went for a run :O
Only that wasn't such a good idea, because I kind of ran out of breath halfway and had to stop running for a bit =_=" It is quite depressing to see how far fitness dropped. Then again I was never a distance kid so ye =]

Motivation is a fickle thing. Really hard to keep going. I think I will spam my mp3 with speedy music ^_^

Hm oh yes and now I have a stomach ache from eating some random megahot chilli that mum brought home from work.

Quote: "It is how we pick ourselves up after failure that defines who we are."

Fact: Hotness scale for chilli etc is call the Scoville scale. It ranges from 0-16million (no significant heat to pure capsaicin -> the stuff that brings the pain)

The day that was wasted

Was today.

Today I won my 72nd race in Need for Speed: Underground which I installed on Friday. Kind of simultaneously proud and depressed haha XD I think there is just something inherently awesome about speedy cars and nitrous oxide.

Every now and then we get those days where we just cbs and cannot be bothered studying, and today was mine. I slept at 2am because I was playing NFS, and when I woke up I played it again until like 12pm haha. Feel so nostalgic playing that game, and it's even awesomer now since I can FINALLY push all the graphics to full and not have my computer explode. (a moment of silence for my beloved but somewhat inept Acer from year 7)

However, the day has not been completely wasted =] I've almost finished the calc project that is due on monday, and going to go over bio and do lesson plans for tomorrow before I sleep ^_^

I'm sure some of you have seen this, but it never fails to make me laugh =] Enjoy the little things in life.

Fact: Apparently there are three different words for kiss in latin. Feels like an age since I have been here ^^"
Before anyone reams me out, I quote: "My life is boring, and my motivation comes every new year, so at times, this blog will probably die =p"
I have no recollection of actually writing that, and I'm not too sure what compelled me to write it in the first place, but it seems mighty convenient right now bahah XD

Anyway, I've decided to start adding to this again as a bit of a personal challenge =] I think it will be good for me to just go at something full tilt, and keep to what I want to do right now. Got to say though, after first time, I have alot more respect for the consistent bloggers in our corner of the internets. It can be quite depressing when people don't comment stuff, or noone talks in the chatbox, and I think it takes a certain quality to ignore that bit and still write such nice posts all the time ^^

Another thing I read somewhere, is that apparently it is not the actual content of a blog as much as the frequency of posts that makes it attractive to readers. So now I think I've pinned down where I went wrong. I put up those massive posts and like 25 song mp3 lists because well...I think I was accidentally overdoing it ^^" Actually I'm pretty sure someone mentioned it early on =p But yeah, it was what I wanted to do because iuno...I had this idea I could come up with a heap of interesting cool stuff over and over again for ages. So yes, plan now is post bi-tri weekly and keep it short and sweet XD

NOW! ^_^ For my first short blogthing...

<( o.o )> Click his nose =]

It's like old but just so cool XD This gives me hope for the things humanity can do when they really get together and co-operate. Of course the awesome music is essential ^_^ Don't have to feel bad if you don't watch it all, I can't say I did haha o.< But watch to about 50-60sec for the cameraman in the bottom left to get run over =]

Fact:Alexithymia - the difficulty in identifying and describing one's emotions

Quote: I shall pass through this world but once. What I want to discuss is the terrible situation that I am consigned to, being somewhat indecisive over the matter of my future. So far, I've narrowed course choice down to Bachelor of Medicine at Monash and Bachelor of Biomedicine at Melbourne. I really need to choose between these courses though because whichever one I put as my first preference is the one I will be doing, unless I failed the Monash Interview (which, looking back on all this griping might actually be a good thing rofl =="). Also I will lol so hard if I don't get into either of these courses and this 1am post was all for naught =p

Monash Bachelor of Medicine:
Pros:
Quick and secure entry into a Medical degree (on the other hand, Melbourne Medicine admits 250 local students every year, meaning anyone who sits the GAMSAT, does and interview and has the prerequs has a shot at it)
On that note, no grueling interviews or GAMSAT if I do Monash Medicine
Patient based learning, and ample clinical practise
Two years faster exit than doing similar course (Biomed -> Grad Med) at Melbourne
Good opportunity for international travel and participation in forums and whatnot

Work specs:
25 contact hours, apparently builing up to about 35, in years 3-5 up to 40hours in clinical work
Early years of the course focus on personal wellbeing, as well as a huge blob of subunits such as
* cardiovascular
* endocrinology
* gastrointestinal
* genomics
* human behaviour
* human development and growth
* immunology and infection
* metabolism
* molecules, cells and tissues
* musculo-skeletal
* neurosciences
* nutrition
* renal
* reproduction
* respiratory
Which are all taught via patient based learning (i.e. made up situation where someone has so and so problem)

Perks:
I think I might get a car :O
I know people going there
It is far less city-like than Melbourne Uni (not sure it's good :\)
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 271px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/SyuVn527DhI/AAAAAAAAADE/HWgW89axu5s/s400/Flinders+St.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416587489621773842" />
Melbourne Bachelor of BioMedicine:
Pros:
Flexible degree that will allow for a change of heart on my part with no detrimental effects
Can lead to Doctor of Medicine, Optometry, Dentistry and Masters Engineering.
Guaranteed CSP place in Masters Engineering given I do an Engineering major
Highly interesting field with many different pathways
Opportunity to do Breadth Studies such as Japanese or Psychology
If I don't like Biomed, I can stick with Engineering and bury myself in Maths =p
If I don't like Engineering, I can stick with Biomed and be a Doctor/Dentist or Optomertrist
If I like both, I can do Biomedical Engineering and make awesome surgial lasers, prosthetics and bionic eyes
If I don't like any of them I can stick with my psychology breadth, get a Masters and compete in Liar Game
The three year course means less time wasted if I completely change my mind about this whole thing

Work Specs:
Each year the amount of core Biomedicine subjects drops until there is only one subject per semester, a major and a breadth
Contact hours depend on what electives are chosen
Unsure about Graduate Medicine as it is a new course, though given the age and experience of Melbourne's Medical School it should be useful

Perks:
Sexy campus, with abundant public transport from my home
Same route I've been going the last four years of my life
In the middle of the city -> convenient job and shopping opportunity, not to mention state library, ,bowling, karaoke and rock climbing =]
Lots more friends going here I think
I think there should be more local studnets in this course
Near to Monash Pharmacy Faculty where more friends will likely study
Great Athletics track, 25m swimming pool and gym

I think the Monash list looks bigger because of all those random subunits, but anyway this is just me trying to make my problem a bit more tangible. You know though, I think that no matter which course I end up doing, I'll try to see the pros and perks much better, and I'm sure I'll discover some awesome new ones while I'm there =] Then again, I think I will always want to look a little further down the road not taken, wondering if I've missed some amazing opportunity that was waiting just around the corner >_>"

Anyway, just wondering about any opinions that anyone has regarding this choice. I'm not really leaning towards either side I guess, since I can find great things about both. I suppose Melbourne is more motivated by environment and space to change my mind where as Monash is more if I want to do straight Medicine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, since it's like two days before final selections haha! ^_^

I'll get on the changing of the music tomorrow, well, today since it's like 1.40am =_= But somewhat later today =] Hope all you kids didn't feel too bad about ENTER scores, though now that it's almost been a week I guess any initial pain is sort of dulling.

Lastly, here's a pic I found that I've mentioned to a few people but never got around to showning them.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/SyuUwmj_SWI/AAAAAAAAAC0/cqwLFJCdaG8/s400/ninja.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416586539549280610" />

ed: anyone having trouble with mixpod, you've got to use a skin that shows video because youtube decided we're not allowed to stream just audio content

So it's been awhile huh ^^"

I'm terribly sorry for the 12 day hiatus eheh XD I don't know, blame it on exam stress or lack of sleep (because I feel guilty leaving aircon on overnight), but I couldn't really think of anything worthwhile to blog about hahah. Especially since exams were staring me in the face >_>"

But now that I have alot more free time (ahem still have chinese exam to go but that's ok ^^") I had a think about what I just did. Like, I gave up blog for the sake of some nerding. Was it worth it haha? Don't know, I'm not even sure how many kids read this thing XD Maybe nobody was affected except viv and the fishkeeper(btw whoever you are you are the awesome!!)

Anyway, that sort of got me thinking about the future, where I'm floating towards in life, and I guess what I want to get out of life.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/SvyXh3csh7I/AAAAAAAAACc/w60xwViOptE/s400/Migrate_in_Dream_by_liquidkid1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403360261013538738" />

Is it really that bad to not care desperately about grades for instance? By the time we get to year 12, pretty much everybody is studious, true, but we all realise the world is bigger than that damn stupid mistake on the maths exam. Ok yeah so I totally slapped myself when I realised I hadn't subbed in pi after methods 1, but after about a night of hardcore gaming everything was good o.< I mean, in the end, the culmination of our 13 years of education is nothing more than four digits and a dot that at best tell you how much better than other people you are and at worst are a snide reminder about how many more kids beat you =_=. In the end, it doesn't really represent that much does it?

You hear people talking about how nobody cares about your ENTER past VCE. About how the type of person you are, and how hard you work is what really makes you stick out. I totally agree. Sure it'll get you into uni, but by no means does a good ENTER mean you will succeed in life. It's the type of person your education spits you out as that counts. My idea of academia being top of the list sort of disintegrated awhile ago I guess ^^". Life is bigger than books man =].

...Then again I'm totally in love with computer games so I guess I'm being a tad hypocritical =p

So what is important? What kind of life should I be aiming for? Do I want to be some famous scientist (or possibly a failure of a scientist who never discovers anything)? Or will I be happy with lots of money, time and a nice family? Should I just open a stationary chain? Or do I need a magical 99.95 and a PhD to get what I want out of life?

I guess, in the end, all I really want is to be happy. Maybe it's all anybody wants (except CFK...HA). The problem for me is finding what truly makes me happy, and how to get it. I'm not sure I'll ever figure it out, but it'll be fun giving everything a try I bet ^^

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 314px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/SvycPpoWuyI/AAAAAAAAACs/yAppWb18Ogc/s400/watermelon.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403365445624838946" />

Right now, we year 12 kiddies are standing on the edge of an ocean of possibility. At this stage in our lives, we still have the opportunity to achieve anything we want to. No matter what values we hold, or where we want to go with life we have the chance to grab the opportunity to get there! Dream big and kick hard to get where you want =]

“He who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.”

Google

The wonderful Internet search engine that brings meaning and cure for boredom. At a certain time in everyone's life, we get a little paranoid. Recently, I was wondering about how someone would view me if they saw my google searches from the last two weeks. So here, to you, my readers, I bear the gritty randomness of my google searches:

Asperger's syndrome
Hell, Michigan
Kitsch
Original 150 pokemon
UAC
winterbells
Starcraft 2
Zerg Protoss Hybrid
time
uvula
what lies beneath
www.imaninja.com
achilles
empire earth
sea cow
sycophantic
creme de menthe
cyclic quadrilateral
malediction
zombie horde 3
Budew
Aibohphobia
Halo 1 assault on the control room
Nevus flammeus nuchae

Hope you enjoyed XD

“A gem is not polished without rubbing, nor anyone perfected without trials.”

So i lied

Yes yes I know, it's not after spesh 2 yet...but I decided to recap the two exams today =]

Today, woke up at 6.30, read motivational note I wrote to myself the night before. "Do your best, it's not regretting anything that counts" -> huray for mediocrity! XD

And mediocre it was. English was ahem...not that cool. I wrote about 4 pages 1 paragraph each for text response and language analysis (HOMG HOMOSUPERSAYAIN ^_^) but only about 3 or a little under for context. And alot of it was...incoherent. Yeah, I failed bad >_>" I found it quite saddening that my entire year of striving for awesomeness in this context that I actually liked had to end with such a wet firecracker of a bang =[ But I guess there's not much point worry about it now ^^

Anyway, inspired by viv's blog, I also decided to find a picture that embodied my attitude towards the coming exams.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 280px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/SuqwoOWgDMI/AAAAAAAAACU/P3RBPhkktJs/s400/WANNA+FIGHT.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398321308450688194" />
Gah, right, Spesh Exam. Well, iuno about you other schools, but us MHS kids looked upon this spesh exam as Darth Vader might look upon ...an ewok....from the Death Star. Personally being a relatively average MHS kid, after reading it, I simultaneously realised that the exam was aceable and that it was likely I would make some noobzor mistake and again the elusive 100% would slip through my fingers =="

So I did the stupid exam, and finally managed to convince myself I had a chance of aceing...and then I walked into the happy group of asian kids that I call friends and all hope went out the window =_=. Lost two marks...or three if they don't count consequentials. Cursed negative sign...if only my hand had slipped huh =p

Anyway, that's it from me for now =] Good job everybody ^__^ VCE kids, just think; no more english...EVER!! BWAHAHAA!

"If you give up as soon as the pieces don’t seem to fit, you’ll never get anywhere" - something I learnt from playing Tetris XD

One Down, Eight to go =]

So I had that Chinese oral today that I've been dreading ever since the pro-er Chinese people went through theirs last year =_= Surprised at how many MHS boys do Chinese, never knew there were so many in year 12 haha. I think its kind of sad I feel I'm going to look forward to going to school for exams, just so I can be in the place a few more times ^^"

Last official day today (for anyone who's interested in wagging exams) =] Ran around being a bit of a camwhore, trying to grab as many memories as possible. Made a few, probably lost a few too (little vincent dammit where were you! ;_;). The final assembly was awesome, will put youtube link if I can find one. Anyway I was going to upload a couple photos from today, and try a few more on fb later ^^

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/SuBFi_WVidI/AAAAAAAAAB0/w7uyGkYZ8bs/s400/Ej+Dawei.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395388821012842962" />

“Life's a climb, but the view is great.”

Time Flies

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 311px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/St7SfVesUsI/AAAAAAAAABM/0q72YfvFavE/s400/When_Time_Passes_By_by_Xentri.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394980839420089026" />
So it seems like its only been a little while since I last blogged, but looking at the dates it seems my maximum four days for non-blogging are already over >< So sorry haha

Firstly, christmas is coming and I want a rocket ^__^

In other news, it's last day of school tomorrow and I'm feeling quite nostalgic. It's funny that goodbyes often bring out the best emotions in people =] After tomorrow's rushed two periods of shirt signing, Mr Wood trying to find all the pictures of Muqi in and around his office, and the final assembly, all us kids will be off to our little study hermitages to bring back good results for the school.

Time. I wish there was more of it. Even just now, as I realised the length of time between my blogs I lamented its loss. Those hours I spent not blogging is time I will now never be able to spend with you =[ Isn't it tragic? XD

But really, time is a terrible thing. It always seems to sneak by when things are going good, and when you realise it's there, your fun is ruined (much like some of the shifty kids in dodgeball today, I totally suck at that game ><). It's bit hard to treasure it when, so young, we have so much of it left. Then again, it's a total pain in the butt when you're trying not to fall asleep in class >_>"

I want a timeturner, like in Harry Potter. Someone was telling me that you really can go back in time and change things without destroying the universe, but I was kind of zoned out and didn't really understand. Maybe if I ever get a time machine I will hit myself for not paying as much attention.

I guess in some ways I do want to go back in time. Back to the familiar faces and places in year 7. Just to relive all the things over again. Not to say I wouldn't try to change some of the things hahah, but what can you do? (except build a time machine? XD). I suppose, like I think many are, I'm scared of what the future holds. I want to cling to the familiar, what I'm used to and comfortable with. Can't really say I'm not that kind of person =_=
However I can't go back, and I guess it'll be quite pathetic if I keep trying to live in the past.

So I'll embrace the future with a full tilt rugby tackle. Next post I'll see if I can write down some plans for post exams, so you can all bag me and nag me until I do them ^__^

Anyway, if you cbs reading this post, here is what i bsed in summarised form:
I want a rocket.
I want time.
I hate losing time.
Gimme a timeturner.
Insert indecisive space filler
Steve has spoken =D

Blah and lastly to any MHS boys reading this, thanks, it's been a great three/four years with you guys ^^

"Life goes by once. I KNOW YEAH XD

Anyway yes, now that they're over though I've kind of started thinking about leaving school and whatnot. Have to say though, though it's going to be a bit sad, I'll make sure I work harder to keep old friends =] AFTER EXAMS PARTY OK GUYS ^^

*Sigh* so yes. The year is coming to a close. The curtain is falling. The final die is about to be cast...

I sound so emoy hahah XD Come on guys, this is going to be AWESOME XD Massive party time after exams, and then get to go to a whole new part of your life in uni ^_^ Sure you can be a little sad.. but I think in this case good outweighs bad =] It's not like we can't all stay in touch after school, what with this wonderful internet and all XD

I think it's not really the end. It's the start of something awesome =] Remember old friends, but don't forget to un-sad yourself for long enough to make new friends alright? I've recently discovered the tiny mindless bitesized flash games from http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal. They're pretty simple, but it's good work, and the music is very nice ^__^ Respect for anyone who can get above 6k on the umbrella car jumping game =]

Recently I have rediscovered my love for the Pokemon theme song. Fruit of my labour is 4 pages of copy pasted awesomeness ^_^

>·For example:
Today, I was thinking about the expression 'revenge is a dish best served cold'. XD

Has it been long since we last talked? Not that bad hey? See, the whole non-comittal relationship is working bahah =] At least when I talk I don't shutup for awhile so it kind of makes up for it XD

Anyway so today I had Zone Athletics Comp in the "International Athletics Track"....in Meadowglen =_=" Like 1 and a bit hour bus ride there and back man >_> Massively draining AND I had to get to school by like 8.15 haha

Ack so what was special about today? Well today I was reminded once again of the important of effort and drive in life. And also that we must value and nurture the skills we've been given if we are ever to succeed. Why do I say this?
My self esteem got bodyslammed today =_="

Ok so thats not totally true; I still won four medals, and since they're all equal size, the gain of shiny object is the same. But you see the thing is, last year I got four 1st places, and this time around I lost my two favourite events =[ So now my medal ribbons are like red blue red blue...I guess it's better looking than all blue, but I wanted to run at least one...normal sprint this year >_> The 400m is not a sprint event okay, its like...an event that is short enough, so that people THINK it's a sprint, but if you actually sprint the whole way you die about halfway...well..I do XD

BUT I DIGRESS! BACK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND
Lately I have come to believe that drive and determination mean everything to future success. Nothing's easy in the real world, and no matter how good your actual skills are; there will come a time when you are bested by someone else (as I watch the all black Olympic 100m finals I can't help but laugh at my chances =_="). I think it's important to start working hard now, not just academically, but on relationships and life skills, so that later on in life we'll have an advantage over the nubs who didn't bother =] I think I've already sort of wasted several opportunities in life, so I guess this is my personality's reaction to these experiences (according to Le Chatlier's Principle of course =]). So the advice I want to give today is this: Milk those chances for all they are worth. They'll lead to more chances, great things and ultimately I think a better life. =]

Besides giving you a compeditive edge, I believe that doing or achieving something at a time in our lives when our mentalities are still forming is very beneficial to later life. I think a few studies have shown that kids who are popular/successful in school life tend to go on to good things later on. Not that the people who perhaps are not can't. But I think its more of a case that they prevent themselves from doing so.
By being awesome and involed in early school life, we grab social, learning opportunities by the udder and milk them for all they are worth. This, I think might lead to higher levels of confidence in said milkers, allowing them the self belief to take more and more of these chances. As it says in our MHS diary "Opportunities multiply as they are seized" - Sun tzu.

Conversely, if you don't take these opportunities, they will not multiply. In fact, they'll whither and die out, and when you finally do figure out you want them, they're long gone. Going back to the milking metaphor I guess its like taking so long to decide to milk the cow that it's dead before you decide to begin. You're laughing now I guess lol, but I'd bet any cow that I own in the future that its happened to more than one person. =[

Take every chance that's offered to you guys. You won't regret it. (ok but don't do drugs =.=)

Basically, this whole mini essay that was cobbled together in about 3 minutes is my advice to you guys. Be like Kegs, conducting Waterloo house music, or like Bill, who took a shot with Chem Olympiad and is now like...even godlier than before XD But apply this theory to everything in your life, not just academia or music! Jump into uni life, make new friends, go places, be AWESOMER ^__^ Don't waste this chance at life we've got =]

> Sorry it's like mega fat ><

> [9x - 7i > 3(3x-7u)] - For anyone who wants to revise a little algebra and learn a good way to pick up people whilst simultaneously evaluating their mathematical ability. Solve for 'i' in terms of 'u'.

> “If you want to rise…do the difficult” (THIS MEANS PLAY EXPERT BOTS ON CS, INSANES ON DOTA, AND START ON LEVEL 10 OF TETRIS!! Oh and it sort of relates to what I said before)

> Riddle:
A cloud was my mother, the wind is my father, my son is the cool stream, and my daughter is the fruit of the land. A rainbow is my bed, the earth my final resting place, and I'm the torment of man.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 114px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/SsxEqDmabqI/AAAAAAAAAAc/ydZLhc_17iE/s320/ducklings.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5389758343367257762" />

Ok so I think I've distracted you guys from study for long enough now =]

Return of the Ting

Unrated songs on Itunes = 958 / 4175

WHY HELLO AGAIN WORLD =]

Since today at lunch Hungy asked me when I was going to blog again, I've decided to put the next phase of my plan for world domination into action. Namely, making a SECOND POST XD
Did you miss me? ^^ I hope you did, because I missed talking to myself on the internet tremendously >3

Ok, so the plan was to leave you guys hanging for awhile, so you wouldn't come to expect daily updates from me. This way, we could continue a nice, noncommittal loving relationship without any dodgy suspicion about what I was doing when I wasn't talking to you =] Obviously I'm just worried that I might distract you all from your precious precious ENTER scores o.< ..Speaking of cadets, Oj if you're reading this, update more! I miss your blogs ^__^

At least now we all understand each other with the frequency of blog thing right? So no hard feelings ok =p

ANNNYWAY today us cool state school people had first day of term four. WHICH WAS AWESOME IF ANY OF YOU LUCKY PRIVATE SCHOOL PEOPLE WHO STAYED HOME WERE WONDERING >3 Ok so my class got like...4/5 trial exams back, plus a methods and spesh SAC rofl. Was quite an assault on the self esteem >_<" I guess I did...passably, only English is wtf domination hahah! Need to write more practise essays =_="

Apart from that there was nothing really special about today, except that we started singing practise and had our second last year 12 assembly. Feeling somewhat nostalgic about it all you know, finishing school and everything. =[ HAHAH actually midway through Ludo's speech about last days of year 12 i asked Bill if he wanted to sneak back into bhs with our old laptops and try to blend in to the year 7 alp class XD Do you reckon would have worked? Didn't think so ><

Any ideas for muckup day anyone? :O

This post is getting a bit fat I guess, so I suppose I should leave it here =]

> QOTD - “I’ve found that the more I practise, the luckier I get”
Thought it was fitting given what I want to do with english =_=

> I use emoticons too much when I type haha, effects of the Internet ? XD

> The Pope has it but he does not use it.
Your father has it but your mother uses it.
Nuns do not need it.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has a big one,
Michael J. Fox's is quite small.
What is it?

Enjoy working that out everyone =] I promise you it is not sick ^^

> An lastly, I think I've found an outlet for all those funny pictures I've found XD
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 262px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_L2rdI3d3pZE/SsmYkJvWVwI/AAAAAAAAAAU/fcEzd7Te0Ok/s320/onlyinthemovies.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5389006175982737154" />

ps. answer to the riddle is in the comments, Congrats Little Vincent for putting it up ^__^

HAI, Can has stdio?, Visible "HAI WORLD", KTHXBYE

Hello there ^_^ I'm Steve! Nice to meet you =]

I've decided to start this blog because of a lifelong admiration of blogger friends, a 1am spurt of motivation and of course to further my plans for world domination. Hopefully that doesn't freak you out too much, because admit it, you wouldn't mind unlimited control over the world either XD

Anyway, I'll be posting random thoughts I have up here, observations, good jokes/riddles, opinions and maybe some stuff that actually goes on in my life =] Since I'm just about to graduate from highschool, hopefully soon I'll be rocketing off to much more interesting posts in a few months XD

Once there are more posts in this blog, I think you'll probably notice that I say the word 'anyway' wayy too much. But apart from that hopefully you'll get to know me better =] Maybe I'll even change a bit because of this blog, and as I get older and smellier =p

Pah, anyway I think I'll leave it at that.

Ok who am I kidding XD

Simple Section:
SO LIKE I WAS JUST TALKING TO STOOF AND SHE TOLD ME TO WRITE ABOUT ROCKETS (both spaceship and the vegetable) AND THE IDEA STRUCK ME! WHY NOT MAKE ROCKETS(spaceship) OUT OF ROCKET(vegetable) ^__^
Why would you do that you ask? XD Because rocket(vegetable) can totally be converted into biofuel such as ethanol! It's like building the whole freaking rocket(spaceship) out of the fuel you're going to use to fly it! ^_^ Of course I guess you'd need some kind of basic frame on the inside for support, and on the outside so the left over rocket(vegetable) doesn't ignite on re-entry and the whole rocket(spaceship) ends up flying around permanently on fire. But isn't that a cool idea XD

And why stop at that? Soon the entire planet's supply of vegetables could be dedicated to making rockets and my plan to save the next generation of children from eating brocolli will be complete XD

Standard section:
So I've made a new blog as I mentioned above like a billion times. But I wonder how it'll change me. Like, I'm entering a new social sphere in a way, not to mention putting all the junk in my brain onto the net for all the strange people to see. I've taken another step in the direction of internet addiction. XD

The damage to my eyes aside, I wonder what being on the internet for extended periods of time will do to me. It's undisputable that the internet has definitely changed the lives of the people who use it. Everyone's got a blog, everyone chats on msn, fb, skype and all those other means of electronic communication. With the internet, the closest of friends can live on opposite poles of the Earth, and everyone's an expert.
However, I think the internet also has alot of danger too. Cyber bullying, net addiction and access to pretty women, I believe has an extremely detrimental effect on people, especially younger minds.

I'm just wondering; if we spend all our time on these things, will the way we interact in real life be affected?

Challenge Questions
> Ten points to whoever figures out where I stole the structure of this post from =]

> Imagine you're in a room. Six solid, inpenetrable walls surround you and a magical supply of breathable air. In this room, you have a cat, a Happy meal from Macdonals and a book of your choice. How do you escape from the room?

>I wonder if anyone recognised the lolcode haha

>It took me like an hour to get this whole page together. I feel accomplished.
--------------

Anywayy hope you all enjoyed this massive first post, because I doubt there will be many more like it in the next few weeks with exams and all =p Feel special you lucky people.

ed-

Kevin says:
lol
However, I think the internet also has alot of danger too.
